Russian citizen extradited from Georgia to Kazakhstan Video
A Russian national suspected of involvement in the January 2022 unrest in Almaty has been extradited from Georgia to Kazakhstan, the Kazakh Prosecutor General’s Office said.
Authorities said the suspect was accused of actively participating in mass riots, kidnapping citizens, and violently seizing property during the events in Almaty. He had been on the run for over three years and was listed as internationally wanted, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.
The extradition was carried out by the Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Central Bureau of Interpol, with assistance from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The suspect had been detained in Georgia in September and is currently being held in a pre-trial detention center in Kazakhstan.
According to Kazakh authorities, the crimes he is accused of carry prison sentences ranging from seven to twelve years, along with potential confiscation of property.
