Russian Defence Ministry confirms massive drone interceptions across country
Russian air defence forces have successfully intercepted 41 drone-type aircraft over 12 regions of Russia and the Black Sea, the Defence Ministry reported via its Telegram channel.
The breakdown of the interceptions is as follows: 12 drones over the Bryansk region, five each over the Kaluga region and Bashkiria, three over the Moscow region, two each over the Belgorod and Orel regions, and one each over the Volgograd, Kursk, Ryazan, Tambov, Tula, and Samara regions.
Additionally, six drones were shot down over the Black Sea.
Bryansk Region Governor Alexander Bogomaz confirmed that there were no casualties, while Kaluga Region Governor Vladislav Shapsha also reported no injuries. Shapsha specified that four UAVs were destroyed over the Tarussky municipal district and one over the Medynsky municipal district.
Voronezh Region Governor Alexander Gusev reported overnight drone interceptions in the sky over Voronezh city and four districts within the region.
The drone activity disrupted air travel, leading 10 Russian airports to temporarily suspend operations overnight, with a total of 11 aeroplanes diverted to alternate airfields. Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin and Rostov Region Governor Yury Slyusar also confirmed attacks by drones in their jurisdictions.
