Russian embassy in Tehran warns citizens of potential Israeli strikes on Iran

11 October 2024 10:06

Russian citizens are advised to take safety precautions due to the potential Israeli strikes on Iranian targets.

This warning comes from the Russian embassy in Tehran, Caliber.Az reports, citing the embassy’s post on Telegram.

"The Russian embassy recommends that Russian citizens in Iran must strictly adhere to safety measures in connection with the escalating situation and the potential Israeli retaliatory strikes on Iran," the message says.

Russian citizens are also urged to stay updated through the embassy's official channels. Israel has vowed to respond to last week’s significant missile attack from Iran. The range of potential responses includes symbolic strikes on military installations or more severe assaults on Iran’s crucial oil industry and its clandestine, heavily fortified nuclear programme.

The details regarding the intensity and timing of any counterattack were expected to be discussed in a meeting this week at the Pentagon between Israel’s defense minister and his US counterpart.

However, the Pentagon announced a sudden postponement of the meeting, reportedly due to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisting that he speak with US President Joe Biden first. In a sign of possible differing views on the best course of action, Biden has previously advised Israel against targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities and has discouraged attacks on its oil sector.

Three former Israeli prime ministers and various experts weigh in on Israel’s potential strategies. While there is a strong consensus that a response is necessary, opinions vary widely on the most effective approach.
