Russian envoy urges UK PM Starmer to resign

Russia’s presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev, has publicly called on British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to resign, intensifying rhetoric around the United Kingdom’s mounting energy and cost-of-living pressures.

In a post on social media platform X, Dmitriev said he wished Starmer would “finally admit how difficult the energy crisis is” and step down, Caliber.Az reports. 

I wish he had read my posts and resigned. Instead, he would finally admit how difficult the energy crisis is and ask Britons to drive less, fly less, eat less and wash less.

There will be no acknowledgment of mistakes made. No course corrections.

He accused the British leader of failing to acknowledge policy mistakes or adjust course, adding that there would be “no course corrections.”

The comments come as Starmer is set to deliver an update on the cost-of-living situation amid concerns that instability in the Middle East could drive up global energy prices and household bills in Britain.

Separately, Donald Trump claimed the UK was among countries that “can’t get jet fuel” in remarks made ahead of the Easter bank holiday weekend. The statement was swiftly rejected by Airlines UK, which said there were no jet fuel shortages affecting British airlines.
