Russian FM expects West to heed warnings about "red lines"
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Russia is not interested in further escalation of relations with the West and anticipates that its warnings about "red lines" will be taken seriously.
In an interview with foreign media, Lavrov emphasized, “No escalation,” in response to whether Russia desires heightened tensions, Caliber.Az reports.
He pointed out that there has been ongoing discourse for several months regarding the notion that Russia is merely issuing threats when it talks about these "red lines." Lavrov noted that the West has repeatedly crossed these lines without facing significant repercussions, suggesting a growing frustration with the lack of response to Russia’s concerns.
When asked about the specific context of Russia's "red lines," particularly in relation to the potential use of nuclear weapons, Lavrov asserted that Russia discusses these boundaries in hopes that intelligent, decision-making individuals will heed their warnings. He remarked, “It is not serious to say that if you do not do what I demand of you tomorrow, we will press the 'red button.'”
Lavrov expressed his conviction that those who make critical decisions in the West are aware of the gravity of the situation. He reiterated, “No one wants a nuclear war. It has been stated many times,” further assuring that Russia possesses weapons that could have severe consequences for the leadership in Ukraine. He confirmed that these weapons are fully operational and ready for use, underscoring the seriousness of the threats being made.
