Armenia, US ink strategic partnership agreement in Washington
On January 14, 2025, an agreement was signed between Armenia and the United States, marking another milestone in their relationship.
In a ceremony broadcast live by Armenia’s Public Television, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken put pen to paper, formalising the Charter on Strategic Partnership between Yerevan and Washington, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“This is a landmark achievement in the ties between Armenia and the US,” Blinken declared. “Through this partnership, we’re laying the foundation for a commission that will open up a wealth of opportunities to enhance our collaboration in areas like the economy, defence, security, and democracy.”
Blinken also underscored the broad scope of the agreement, noting that “the economic cooperation between our two nations has already seen progress in the energy sector. Now, we are taking the next steps in negotiations focused on peaceful nuclear safety and nuclear energy.”
The partnership’s reach extends beyond economics. “We are committed to working together on security and defence,” Blinken explained, emphasising the shared goal of fortifying Armenia’s sovereignty.
Blinken also announced the upcoming visit of a special border security team, which will travel to Armenia next week for joint efforts on securing borders and improving safety.
He revealed that the Eagle Partner initiative, designed to strengthen peace and safeguard Armenia’s borders, will continue. “In addition,” he added, “Armenia is joining the global coalition against the Islamic State, reinforcing our collective fight against terrorism.”
