Russian FM jokes about brochure, drawing laughter at UN meeting
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made a light-hearted remark ahead of a meeting with former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, a candidate for the position of UN Secretary-General.
Before the meeting, Bachelet handed Lavrov a blue brochure containing her program statement for the UN chief post and noted that the material was available in Russian, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
In response, Lavrov jokingly referred to the brochure out loud as “propaganda,” prompting laughter in the room.
On June 8, Lavrov said that Russia does not oppose Bachelet’s candidacy for the post of Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that during the tenure of current UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the authority of the United Nations has been weakened.
