Russian FSB thwarts attempted attack on aircraft in North Ossetia
Russian authorities have successfully prevented an attempted terrorist attack at Vladikavkaz International Airport in North Ossetia.
The Federal Security Service (FSB) of the republic reported that a criminal case has been initiated in connection with the incident, according to Russian media.
According to the FSB, a 25-year-old Russian citizen planned to set fire to an aircraft as part of a terrorist act. Investigators discovered that the suspect regularly accessed radical Telegram channels promoting violence against Russian military personnel.
The individual had acquired a specialised pyrotechnic device and attempted to recruit an airport aviation security officer to assist in the planned sabotage.
The suspect has been detained and faces charges under Part 1 of Article 30 (preparation and attempt of a crime), Part 1 of Article 205 (terrorist act), and Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 (facilitation of terrorist activity) of the Russian Criminal Code.
The investigation into the case is ongoing.
