Russian general accused of fuel theft faces two new criminal cases

Two new criminal cases have been opened against former deputy head of the Main Directorate of Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Moscow Region, Major General of Internal Service Sergei Malkov, who is accused of stealing official motor fuel, a TASS correspondent reported from the Moscow City Court, where a complaint against the general’s detention is being heard.

“I ask the court to add the reports of operational officers concerning an inquiry into Malkov’s possible involvement in new crimes, as well as the decision to open two new criminal cases against him,” the investigator said during the court hearing.

The Meshchansky District Court in Moscow had previously ordered Malkov to be held in custody in the case concerning the theft of official motor fuel. The case also involves former head of the Moscow Region Interior Ministry’s FKУ TsKhISО, Colonel of Internal Service Alexei Suyarov, and the head of a department at the same institution, Anna Levina, who were also arrested.

A criminal case was opened under the article concerning embezzlement, Part 4 of Article 160 of the Russian Criminal Code. The preliminary investigation was assigned to the Investigative Department of the Russian Interior Ministry.

The damage allegedly caused by the criminal actions of senior Moscow Region police officers and top managers of Eurotrans exceeds 1 million rubles ($11,900).
