Russian investigators charge man with attempted murder after arson attack Video
Investigative authorities in Russia’s Perm region have charged a 38-year-old local resident with the attempted murder of two or more people using a dangerous method, following an arson attack on a private home, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation said.
According to the committee’s press service, the incident occurred during the night of January 29–30, 2026, on Bereznikovskaya Street in the city of Perm. Investigators allege that the suspect deliberately set fire to a house where an acquaintance of his former partner was staying, Caliber.Az reports.
The suspect is accused of dousing the front door and exterior walls of the building with a flammable liquid before setting it alight and fleeing the scene. At the time of the fire, six people were inside the house, including two minors.
The occupants managed to extinguish the fire themselves and subsequently reported the incident to law enforcement authorities. No fatalities were reported.
Investigators later identified and detained the suspect, who was brought in for questioning. According to investigators, the man admitted that the attack was motivated by revenge, claiming he believed the victim had played a role in the breakdown of his relationship with his partner.
The suspect has been formally charged and placed in pre-trial detention. The investigation is ongoing.
