Lavrov, Araghchi discuss Persian Gulf escalation on sidelines of SCO meeting VIDEO/UPDATED

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have discussed the escalation in the Persian Gulf and its impact on efforts to resolve the conflict, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The talks took place in Kyrgyzstan on the sidelines of a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

Lavrov stressed the importance of reaching sustainable agreements to end the fighting as soon as possible, saying this would help restore stability and security in the region and ensure freedom of navigation.

The two ministers also discussed other issues on the current international agenda.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are holding talks in Kyrgyzstan on the sidelines of a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers.

Lavrov arrived in Kyrgyzstan from the Philippines, where he held talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media. 

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the situation in the Middle East was among the issues discussed during that meeting.
