Russian man arrested after urging killings of Roskomnadzor staff

Officers of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) in the Zabaykalsky region have detained a 36-year-old resident of Chita on allegations of calling for an uprising and the killing of employees of the federal media and communications regulator Roskomnadzor.

According to the agency’s press service, the suspect allegedly used the Telegram messaging platform to publish appeals for violence against Roskomnadzor staff and to call for a revolt.

“Investigators established that the 36-year-old man, motivated by personal hostility toward the authorities’ policy of restricting access to internet resources containing extremist and terrorist materials, used the foreign messenger Telegram to call for an uprising and the killing of Roskomnadzor employees,” the statement said.

The FSB said a criminal case has been opened and is being investigated by its regional investigative department. Authorities also searched the suspect’s residence, while during questioning the man admitted to the allegations.
