Russian media regulator: No new comment on Telegram dispute

Russia’s communications regulator Roskomnadzor said it has no additional comments regarding recent statements about its ongoing dispute with messaging platform Telegram. 

The regulator said there was nothing to add to information it had previously published on the matter, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media. 

The remarks followed comments by Sergey Boyarsky, head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, who said that Telegram’s management remains in contact with Roskomnadzor and has removed some content at the regulator’s request. However, he added that the company is still not fully complying with Russian law and needs to take several additional steps to resolve outstanding issues.

Technical problems affecting Telegram’s operation in Russia have been reported since February 10. Roskomnadzor has said it is deliberately slowing down the service, citing the platform’s failure to adhere to national legislation.

The State Duma has indicated that dialogue between the company and the regulator is ongoing but stressed that further measures by Telegram are required before restrictions can be lifted. Prior to the recent disruptions, voice calls via the app had already been restricted in Russia since the summer of 2025.
