Russian MFA receives note after vandals attack Swedish embassy
The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed the receipt of a note from the Swedish Embassy following an act of vandalism at its diplomatic mission in Moscow.
The incident occurred on the morning of November 28, when a group of teenagers threw bottles and splashed paint on the embassy's facade. Police apprehended the suspects at the scene, Caliber.Az reports via Russian news sources.
The Swedish Embassy requested an update on the investigation into the attack in a note received by the Russian Foreign Ministry on December 2. In response, the Ministry reiterated Russia’s commitment to ensuring the protection of diplomatic missions under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, emphasizing that all appropriate measures would be taken to prevent further incidents.
According to the Mash Telegram channel, the vandalism was likely linked to Sweden's recent announcement about increasing its military aid to Ukraine, particularly regarding the supply of ammunition.
To recall, on November 22, Swedish Defense Minister Poul Jonsson revealed that Stockholm would allocate significant funds to Ukraine for the production of long-range missiles and drones, a move condemned by Moscow due to its opposition to Western arms supplies to Ukraine.
The day after the Moscow incident, the Russian embassy in Sweden reported that its building had been targeted for the tenth time in seven months, with a drone dropping paint on its premises.
Russian officials condemned the act, accusing the perpetrators of violating Swedish air traffic laws and causing damage to the embassy.
