Russian MFA spokesperson criticises Macron, Zelenskyy visit to Armenia

18 May 2026 17:33

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has criticised the recent visit of French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Yerevan, using the occasion to target Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

In a post published on social media, Zakharova referred to footage circulated by RT that appeared to show Pashinyan speaking sharply to an Armenian citizen during an election campaign event, Caliber.Az reports.

She quoted him as saying, “Be grateful they didn't break your head in the nearest restroom.”

Zakharova wrote that the remarks reflected what she described sarcastically as “European values” left behind after the visit by Macron and Zelenskyy.

The French and Ukrainian leaders traveled to Yerevan in early May to attend a summit of the European Political Community, a forum aimed at strengthening political and security cooperation across the continent.
