Russian MFA spokesperson: Europe lost sovereignty under US influence
European countries have shifted from being willing partners of the United States to unwilling dependents, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in an interview with RIA Novosti marking Diplomatic Workers’ Day.
Zakharova argued that for many years European states had financially supported US policies, gradually relinquished elements of their sovereignty, and maintained the appearance of satisfaction with this arrangement. According to her, this posture ultimately revealed what she described as a condition of subordination rather than partnership, Caliber.Az reports.
“For so many years, they had to pay up, for so many years they helpfully gave up their sovereignty, for so many years they kept up the pretense of being happy vassals, but it turned out that they were miserable slaves,” the diplomat said.
She attributed this development to what she claimed were U.S. intentions to assert control over parts of European territory.
