Russian MFA: US preparing to fully empower Zelenskyy
Russia has sharply condemned the US for its growing support of Ukraine's military actions in the Kursk region.
Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, denounced what she perceives as a provocative escalation by Washington, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Recent admissions from the Pentagon reveal that the US has allowed Ukraine to deploy American-made weapons in attacks on Russian soil. Furthermore, David Cohen, Deputy Director of the CIA, has confirmed that discussions are underway with Kyiv regarding its military operations in Kursk.
Zakharova criticized the US for seemingly granting Ukraine carte blanche for operations within Russian territory, suggesting that the Biden administration is preparing to extend further support to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She accused the US of abandoning “common sense” and engaging in reckless behaviour.
The situation is set to be a key topic as Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin meets with Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov on August 30 to discuss the ongoing conflict in Kursk and future US assistance to Ukraine.
Fighting in the Kursk region, which began on August 6, has prompted Russia to impose a federal state of emergency in the area.
