Russian military chief claims advance toward Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia

Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, has said that Russian forces are advancing toward the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia. 

Gerasimov made the remarks during a visit to units of the “Southern” group of forces, where he received briefings from military commanders on recent combat operations, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media. 

He stated that the “Dnipro” group of forces had taken control of the village of Veselyanka, while street fighting was ongoing in Orekhiv and areas around Zaporizhzhia.

Gerasimov also claimed that Russian forces now have full control over the Luhansk region, one of the key areas of ongoing fighting in eastern Ukraine.
