Russian oligarch demands new parliamentary elections in Armenia
Russian-Armenian billionaire and opposition leader Samvel Karapetyan has called on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to hold new parliamentary elections or a second round of voting, saying that otherwise his bloc would seek to remove him from power through legal means.
Karapetyan told reporters that the bloc would do everything possible to remove him, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
He stated that Strong Armenia had already appealed to the Central Election Commission, urging it to “correct its mistakes.”
According to him, if the request is ignored, the bloc plans to take the matter to the Constitutional Court.
“We are proposing two options: hold new elections or organise a second round of voting,” Karapetyan noted.
He did not rule out “street protests” if they prove to be the fastest way to achieve the bloc’s goals.
