Police probe Russian rapper GeeGun over cottage shooting

Russia’s Interior Ministry has launched an investigation into rapper GeeGun (Denis Ustimenko-Weinstein) following the publication of footage showing him firing a weapon at a luxury cottage settlement in the Moscow Region.

The Moscow Region branch of the Interior Ministry told Ostorozhno, Novosti that police began checking the circumstances after the video was published.

According to reports, the shooting at GeeGun’s home took place during the night of July 3–4. The rapper’s children said they feared their father would shoot them and members of the household staff during the incident.

GeeGun opened fire with a firearm at employees at the Chateau Severin cottage settlement. He was subdued around 10 hours later and subsequently sent to a rehabilitation centre in Israel.

One of GeeGun’s employees, Shorukh, told Ostorozhno, Media that he sustained two gunshot wounds. According to Shorukh, the rapper opened fire after believing that he had sexually assaulted a child.

Shorukh said GeeGun had locked him in a corridor, accused him of paedophilia, and said he intended to “execute” him. After shooting Shorukh, the rapper returned to the house and said he had “killed” his employee.

Shorukh said he did not file a police complaint and later returned to Tajikistan.

Meanwhile, Ostorozhno, Moscow reported that police in the Moscow Region learned about the  shooting at GeeGun’s home only through media reports.

“Such calls were not recorded, and at the moment there are no materials of an investigation or other procedural actions regarding this incident,” a source close to the department told the outlet.

A resident of the settlement also told journalists that neighbors generally did not have a practice of calling the police.
