Russian president orders aid for flood-stricken Dagestan
06 April 2026 16:18
Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov and Dagestan’s head Sergey Melikov to assist those affected by floods in the region, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.
Putin received briefings from Kurenkov and Melikov by phone and ordered a meeting on April 7 with representatives from Dagestan authorities and federal agencies, TASS reports.
Flooding began in the North Caucasus regions in late March due to heavy rains, with a second wave hitting over the weekend of April 4–5. As of April 6, more than 2,000 homes in Dagestan are submerged, and the death toll has reached four.
