Russian security service foils railway sabotage plot in Krasnodar region
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) thwarted an attempted terrorist attack on a railway infrastructure facility in the Krasnodar region, according to Russian media.
A resident of Krasnodar was detained after allegedly preparing to set fire to an energy supply facility linked to railway infrastructure on instructions attributed to Ukraine. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the suspect on multiple charges, including high treason and preparation of a terrorist attack. A court has ordered him to remain in custody.
Security services stated that the individual was recruited via the messaging app Telegram by a representative of an organisation banned in Russia and described as a Ukrainian terrorist group. Under these instructions, he planned to use improvised incendiary devices to target an energy facility supporting regional rail operations.
Authorities also allege that the detainee deliberately spread false information online aimed at discrediting Russian servicemen involved in what Russia calls its “special military operation,” and posted calls on Telegram to fund an illegal armed formation associated with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
