Russian tourist hospitalized after boat explosion in Phuket waters
A pleasure boat carrying tourists from Russia and Kazakhstan exploded and caught fire near Maiton Island in Thailand’s Phuket province, leaving one Russian tourist injured.
The incident was confirmed by the Thai tourist police, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
According to a police spokesperson, the vessel was carrying 31 tourists at the time of the explosion. Thirty of them were already in the water, while one Russian tourist, who remained onboard, sustained burns. The injured tourist was immediately transported to a hospital for medical treatment, while the rest of the passengers were unharmed and returned to their hotels.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion, and further details are expected as the situation develops.
In a separate maritime tragedy, six Russian tourists lost their lives on March 27 after a sightseeing submarine sank off the coast of Hurghada, Egypt. According to the local governor, the vessel, operated by Sindbad Submarines, was carrying 45 passengers, including tourists from Russia, India, Norway, and Sweden, along with five Egyptian crew members.
Despite efforts to rescue all on board, six Russian tourists perished, while the remaining passengers and crew members were safely evacuated. The circumstances leading to the submarine's sinking remain unclear, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
