Security official says Western sanctions amount to “open war” with Russia

Senior Russian official Dmitry Medvedev has said that the imposition of Western sanctions on Russia amounts to what he described as an “open war” against the country.

Medvedev, who serves as Chairman of United Russia and Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, made the remarks during the “There Are Results!” reporting and policy forum, Russian media reports.

“In essence, the [party’s] programme began to be implemented during the pandemic, then unprecedented sanctions were imposed, and, in effect, an open war between the Western world and our country began,” Medvedev said.
