Senior Iranian officials arrive in Doha for talks on war diplomacy
Senior officials from Iran arrived in Doha on May 25 for discussions linked to diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the ongoing conflict and addressing key regional security issues, according to a diplomat briefed on the visit.
The Iranian delegation includes chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati, the diplomat told CNN.
“The focus of the delegation’s visit to Doha is on issues relating to the Strait (of Hormuz) and highly enriched uranium,” the source said.
According to the diplomat, discussions are also expected to cover Iran’s frozen financial assets, which are being addressed in a memorandum of understanding currently under negotiation between United States and Iran. The source added that the issue would form part of any final agreement between the two sides.
Qatar, a major US ally in the Gulf region, has recently taken on a more prominent mediating role between Washington and Tehran amid efforts to reduce tensions and help bring the conflict to an end.
