Severe snowfall, ice disrupt transport across Netherlands
Heavy snowfall and icy conditions have caused widespread travel disruption in the Netherlands, bringing the NS (Dutch Railways) network to a halt.
The National Railway Company noted that signal failures and a malfunction in its IT system were behind the suspension of train services across much of the country. While NS trains remain grounded, services operated by other railway companies continue to function, Caliber.Az reports via Dutch media.
In addition to the railway chaos, Schiphol International Airport, one of Europe’s busiest transit hubs, has been severely impacted. At least 300 flights operated by KLM have been cancelled due to the snowstorm, marking the fifth consecutive day of disruptions.
This weather-related chaos follows similar issues across Europe. On January 5, international train services, including Eurostar, were suspended due to the same snowstorm, which has wreaked havoc on travel routes in the region.
