South Korea, Canada to discuss strengthening bilateral ties
Next week, Ottawa will host “2+2” talks between South Korea and Canada, where the foreign and defence ministers of both countries will explore ways to enhance bilateral relations.
The meeting will include South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-back, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, and Defence Minister David McGuinty, Caliber.Az reports, citing South Korean media.
A key agenda item is the signing of a joint agreement on sharing military and defence intelligence. A press conference is also expected to summarise the outcomes of the talks. Ministers will hold separate bilateral meetings as part of the discussions.
The talks come amid South Korea’s efforts to secure a major Canadian submarine contract worth around 60 trillion won ($41 billion), involving the supply of up to 12 3,000-ton naval submarines. The proposal submission deadline is early March.
