South Korean weapons arrive in Poland
Poland received another shipment of modern South Korean weaponry, including the K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and K9 self-propelled howitzers, said Deputy Defence Minister Pawel Beida.
According to Beida, on October 7, 2024, a shipment arrived by sea in Gdańsk, consisting of 12 K9 self-propelled howitzers and four Homar-K launch modules, Caliber.Az reports referring to foreign media.
"We are systematically enhancing the combat readiness of the Polish Armed Forces — this is our mission,” Beida stated.
In July 2022, the previous Polish government reached an agreement with South Korea for the supply of 288 K239 Chunmoo MLRS and 688 K9 howitzers.
Notably, WB Group, a prominent arms manufacturer in Poland, has entered into a contract with South Korean defence company Hanwha Aerospace to produce CGR-080 missiles in Poland. These missiles are designed for use with the K239 Chunmoo rocket artillery systems, which Poland has recently acquired from South Korea.
The agreement encompasses technology transfers, licensing arrangements, and the establishment of a new manufacturing facility. This plant is expected to produce several thousand missiles each year for the HOMAR-K rocket system, the Polish version of the K239 Chunmoo.
In a separate agreement, WB Group will also supply South Korea with its Warmate 3 loitering munitions, commonly referred to as suicide drones, making it the first Polish defence firm to provide the Korean military with these advanced systems.
