Spanish national arrested at Istanbul airport with 22.5 kg of cannabis
Turkish authorities have arrested a Spanish citizen after customs officers discovered 22.5 kilograms of cannabis hidden in his luggage at Istanbul Airportş
Customs officials had been monitoring the passenger due to suspicious behaviour before identifying him in the baggage claim area, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
The suspect was taken to the customs inspection office, where an X-ray scan of his luggage revealed packages containing marijuana. Authorities seized the drugs, which were estimated to have a street value of approximately 20.3 million Turkish lira (about $441,000).
The man was detained and questioned before being brought before a court. He was subsequently remanded in custody and sentenced to imprisonment, the report said.
