Spokesman: Iran–US indirect talks to resume in Muscat
Iran and the United States are expected to resume indirect negotiations on June 15 in Muscat, Oman, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei.
Speaking to reporters on June 9, Baghaei said consultations had taken place and preparations for the next round of talks were underway, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
The renewed diplomatic effort comes amid broader discussions about Iran’s nuclear programme. While details of the upcoming Muscat meeting remain limited, Baghaei’s comments suggest both sides are maintaining contact through back channels to revive negotiations.
In a related development, Baghaei announced that Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, will travel to Norway later this week to participate in the 22nd Oslo Forum—a high-level retreat often used by diplomats and mediators to exchange views on conflict resolution.
The event will take place on June 11-12.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledged the ongoing diplomatic engagement with Tehran, calling Iranian officials “tough” but skilled negotiators. “We’re doing a lot of work on Iran right now,” Trump said during an economic event at the White House. “It’s tough … They’re great negotiators.”
Trump also confirmed that he had recently discussed Iran with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. A statement from Netanyahu’s office said the two leaders spoke on June 9, with Trump indicating that talks would continue later in the week.
