Spokesperson: Moscow "regrets" Azerbaijan’s move to shut Russian House, eyes high-level talks
The Kremlin regrets the closure of the Russian House in Baku and may raise the issue at the presidential level if Russia-Azerbaijan talks occur, spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
“We regret this decision. We believe it is a misunderstanding that can be resolved through bilateral contacts,” Peskov stated, commenting on the closure, Caliber.Az reports.
He added: “We will raise this issue with our colleagues at various levels. If high-level contacts take place, we do not rule out the possibility that this matter could be addressed in discussions between the two heads of state.”
To recap, on February 6, Aykhan Hajizada, spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, announced that the Russian House in Azerbaijan had breached the country's legal framework.
He explained that the Russian Information and Cultural Center, operating under the name "Russian House," was not registered as a legal entity, violating Azerbaijani law.
The Ministry cited national legislation, the principle of reciprocity, and bilateral agreements in its stance. A formal note verbale was sent to Russia on February 3, 2025, informing them of the termination of the Russian House operations in Azerbaijan.
