Spokesperson: Russian Foreign Ministry summons German envoy
Germany’s ambassador to Russia, Alexander Lambsdorff, has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the ministry’s spokesperson Maria Zakharova confirmed on April 27.
“Yes,” Zakharova said when asked by journalists about the summons, according to Russian state media.
The reason for the move was not officially disclosed. However, earlier reports in German media suggested it could be linked to alleged contacts between German politicians and organisations designated as terrorist groups by Russia.
The development comes amid strained relations between Moscow and Berlin. On April 25, Russia’s ambassador to Germany, Sergey Nechaev, said Moscow remains open to resuming cooperation with Germany but would not take the initiative. He added that Russia is not currently seeking to rebuild ties with Berlin.
