Starlink to go live for all Kazakh residents in 2025 after legal rollout

12 June 2025 15:49

Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet will soon be legally available to the entire population of Kazakhstan, with commercial sales of terminals set to begin in 2025.

According to Kazakh media, which cited information from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, Starlink — a subsidiary of SpaceX — is preparing to roll out the sale of its satellite terminals across the country, Caliber.Az reports.

The ministry announced that the service is scheduled to launch in the third quarter of 2025. Officials emphasised that the initiative will play a key role in bringing high-speed satellite internet to remote and hard-to-reach regions of Kazakhstan.

Thanks to Starlink’s satellite-based technology, areas where fibre-optic infrastructure is either too costly or technically challenging to install will gain access to reliable internet.

"Until now, Starlink has operated in Kazakhstan only in pilot mode, providing internet access solely to schools. The general population had no official access. But we have now reached an agreement: the company has committed to complying with all of our national legislation on information security and telecommunications,” said Digital Development Minister Zhaslan Madiev.

He added that Starlink is expected to carry out all necessary procedures within this year, allowing citizens to legally and officially subscribe to its satellite internet services.

Going forward, individuals in Kazakhstan will be permitted to legally purchase, use, and register Starlink terminals in accordance with the country’s legal framework. Internet access will be provided through consumer-operated user terminals.

Starlink, operated by SpaceX, is a satellite internet constellation project that aims to provide high-speed, low-latency broadband internet across the globe, particularly in underserved and remote areas. The system relies on thousands of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites and ground-based terminals. Since its initial deployment began in 2019, Starlink has expanded to dozens of countries, revolutionising internet accessibility in regions with limited traditional infrastructure.
