State Department: Direct Baku-Yerevan dialogue key to resolving problems
US State Department’s Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel has said that a direct dialogue between Baku and Yerevan is a key to resolving problems between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
He made the remarks while asked about updates on the ongoing Washington talks between the Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers at a news briefing on May 2, Caliber.Az reports.
“We remain committed to this process and remain committed to promoting a peaceful future in the South Caucasus. We believe that direct dialogue is key to resolving the issues, but I’m just not going to get ahead of the meetings themselves,” Patel said.
He noted that a number of officials from the US deeply were deeply engaged in the sphere.
“Obviously, Senior Advisor for Caucasus Negotiations Lou Bono has been deeply engaged in this not just through these meetings but through his continued engagement in the South Caucuses. You know that Secretary Blinken attended the plenary session yesterday morning [May 1] and had the opportunity to host these ministers for a dinner Sunday night [April 30]. And so it’s something that we will continue to be deeply engaged on,” he added.
