Strait of Hormuz security dominates Russia-Saudi Arabia diplomatic call
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud held a phone conversation on April 15 to discuss developments in the Strait of Hormuz following attacks by the United States and Israel on the Islamic Republic of Iran and Tehran’s subsequent response, according to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The ministers stressed the need for the immediate cessation of any hostile actions affecting the coastal states of the Persian Gulf, particularly regarding civilian infrastructure.
They also expressed a shared view on the importance of continuing political and diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran, with mediation by Pakistan.
Lavrov and Faisal bin Farhan also supported dialogue involving all relevant parties in order to agree on long-term conditions that would ensure stability and security in the region, based on a balance of interests among all states in the area.
Both Russia and Saudi Arabia expressed readiness to contribute to organising such a dialogue.
