Strong earthquake hits 171 km southwest of Tual, Indonesia
14 July 2025 11:03
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 has been recorded off the coast of Indonesia, said the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to the EMSC, the epicentre of the quake was located 171 km southwest of the city of Tual, at a depth of 10 kilometres, Caliber.Az reports.
There have been no reports of casualties or damage, and no tsunami warning has been issued.
The lack of reported casualties, damage, or tsunami risk aligns with the quake’s offshore epicentre and moderate magnitude, which is below the threshold (typically 7.0 or higher) for significant tsunami generation.
The Molucca Sea Collision Zone, where this quake occurred, is known for frequent tectonic activity due to complex plate interactions.
