Sudan military plane crashes near Babanusa amid RSF siege No survivors
A Sudanese military cargo plane crashed near Babanusa in West Kordofan on November 4 due to a reported technical fault, the army said, as tensions with the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continue in the region.
A separate incident saw Sudanese forces shoot down a drone attempting to enter army-controlled airspace, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The army’s 22nd Infantry Division said the plane suffered a “sudden malfunction in its right wing” after completing a resupply mission.
Despite the emergency, the crew guided the aircraft away from army positions before it plummeted tens of kilometres west of the base, killing all on board. The division also confirmed its anti-aircraft defences neutralised a “hostile strategic drone” in the area.
The RSF offered a rival account, claiming it shot down an “Ilyushin” warplane over Babanusa, releasing video footage of the burning wreckage without further verification.
Babanusa has been under repeated RSF attacks since January 2024, with the army using airdrops to supply besieged forces and conducting strikes against RSF gatherings in the state.
