Sweden deploys some 600 soldiers to Latvia To bolster NATO forces
Sweden is set to deploy approximately 600 soldiers to Latvia in a military commitment to NATO, as part of a Canadian-led brigade.
The Swedish Armed Forces will begin this operation in January, transporting armoured vehicles and personnel to enhance regional security and deterrence, Caliber.Az reports via Swedish media.
Lieutenant Colonel Henrik Rosdahl, commanding the Swedish battalion, emphasized the operation's primary goal: "The main objective is to contribute to deterrence. Should Russia take action, we will face a variety of threats."
This deployment marks Sweden's first NATO operation, reflecting its commitment to collective defence amidst heightened tensions in Eastern Europe.
The Swedish soldiers will integrate into the existing NATO framework, working alongside allied forces to ensure stability and security in the region.
