Syria: Fierce clashes erupt near Hama as rebels advance VIDEO
Armed groups opposing the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria have reportedly advanced into areas surrounding the city of Hama, where fierce clashes are ongoing.
Anti-government factions led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) have been engaged in heavy fighting with the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) since November 27, making significant progress in the Hama province, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
Rebel forces have entered the Mezareeb, Sanayi, and Arbaeen districts located to the east of Hama's city centre. Meanwhile, the battles continue to intensify, with Russian warplanes providing support to Assad's forces.
To the west of Hama's city centre, rebels have seized control of the villages of Irzeh, Al-Wahshiyeh, Kafartun, and Yadigun. The advancing groups are now reportedly heading towards the Hama military airport, situated to the southwest of the city centre.
In a significant escalation, the rebel groups have reportedly downed one of two helicopters that had taken off from the Hama military airport. The second helicopter, having sustained damage, was forced to make an emergency landing.
The situation in Hama remains fluid as both sides sustain heavy losses in the ongoing conflict.
