Syria issues final warning to SDF amid stalled agreement “your time is up”
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s administration has issued a final warning to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) leadership after six months of inaction on eight core articles of the key agreement signed on March 10.
Following a meeting of representatives from the United States, France, and the Kurdish left-wing political party PYD (arriving masked), skipped by al-Sharaa, the Syrian government issued a final warning to the SDF: “Leave Deir ez-Zor immediately — your time is up," Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
During the talks, the PYD demanded several high-ranking political and military appointments, including installing its commander Mazloum Abdi as Syria’s vice president. Other demands included control of ministerial posts, integration of 10,000 SDF fighters into the Syrian army, and a share of revenues from oil and border crossings. The group also insisted on political and administrative autonomy in northeast Syria.
Syrian officials accused the SDF of deliberately stalling and warned that such tactics would lead to serious consequences. “You must implement the March 10 agreement — otherwise, there will be repercussions,” they reportedly told the delegation.
The Syrian government refused the SDF’s request to extend the agreement and limited its representation at the meeting to the foreign minister and the head of U.S. affairs at the Foreign Ministry — a signal of growing frustration in Damascus.
U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack also expressed his disapproval of the PYD’s demands. Witnesses said he abruptly left the meeting in protest, frustrated by the group's persistence.
