Tajikistan calls for expanded cooperation in security within SCO
A Tajik delegation took part in a meeting of interior and public security ministers from member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Bishkek, where Tajik officials called for greater practical cooperation in security and expanded joint exercises among member countries.
The Tajik Embassy in Kyrgyzstan has stated that participants discussed a range of issues, including initiatives to combat terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, and emerging threats linked to the use of digital technologies, Caliber.Az reports, citing Sputnik Tajikistan.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of experience-sharing among the law enforcement agencies of SCO member states.
Ramazon Rahimzoda, who headed the Tajik delegation, stressed the organisation’s role in maintaining security in the modern world and called for a shift toward practical cooperation between relevant agencies.
He said this should include the creation of secure information-sharing channels and the conduct of joint exercises.
Rahimzoda also underscored the need to develop joint mechanisms to counter the financing of terrorist organisations and to train specialised personnel.
Participants noted the importance of preventing radicalisation and taking measures to curb the spread of extremist ideology.
The sides also reaffirmed the need to further strengthen cooperation in the field of security and improve related mechanisms.
