Tajikistan, Japan join forces on glacier monitoring at COP30
Tajikistan and Japan have formalized a cooperation agreement on glacier monitoring, signing a memorandum aimed at strengthening scientific collaboration and environmental oversight.
The accord was concluded on the sidelines of COP30 in Belém, Brazil, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Hydrometeorology Agency of Tajikistan.
Additionally, Abdullo Qurbonzoda, Director of the Hydrometeorology Agency of Tajikistan, met with Kentaro Doi, Japan’s Vice Minister for Global Environmental Affairs, to discuss the preparation of joint scientific publications and the pursuit of international funding for climate and environmental research initiatives.
COP30, held from November 10 to 21, 2025, brings together world leaders, climate experts, and policymakers to accelerate global climate action, promote sustainable solutions, and highlight urgent issues such as forest conservation, biodiversity, and climate adaptation, with a particular focus on vulnerable regions and communities.
The Amazon location underlines the conference’s emphasis on forest protection and environmental stewardship.
