Tehran hits back at Trump, questions his strategy on Hormuz
An Iranian official has sharply criticised US President Donald Trump over his recent remarks on the Strait of Hormuz, describing them as contradictory and lacking clarity.
Elias Khazrati, head of the Government Information Council of Iran’s parliament, said Trump’s statements about the strategic waterway were “complete nonsense” and “absurd,” adding that it remains unclear what course of action the US president intends to pursue.
According to Iran International, Khazrati argued that Trump’s messaging has been inconsistent. “Trump has started talking complete nonsense and speaking absurdly about the Strait of Hormuz. It is not clear what he intends to do. He himself is powerless. First, he says he will resolve it this evening, then says that countries using it should decide for themselves, and that he has nothing to do with it,” he said.
Khazrati also emphasised Iran’s position regarding control of the strait, stating that the Islamic Republic exercises authority over the waterway. He proposed the idea of establishing a “Hormuz treaty,” under which Iran would act as the principal party, while European, Asian, and Arab countries would enter into contractual agreements with Tehran as contractors for access and use of the strait.
