Thai, Omani navies coordinate support for crew near Strait of Hormuz

13 March 2026 11:40

The Royal Thai Navy is coordinating with the Royal Navy of Oman to assist three Thai crew members who remain aboard the cargo vessel Mayuree Naree near the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions in the region.

According to The Nation, the information was confirmed by Paracha Rattanachaiyapan.

Rattanachaiyapan said Thailand currently does not have a naval attaché stationed in the region, meaning coordination efforts are being carried out through diplomatic channels as well as through cooperation with Oman’s naval forces.

He noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand remains the primary authority responsible for providing assistance, while the navy continues to support organisational and coordination efforts.

The admiral added that Thai authorities had earlier warned both government agencies and private companies about the elevated risks in the Strait of Hormuz, as tensions in the region continue to rise. They were advised to adopt enhanced precautionary measures.

In response to the situation, the Royal Thai Navy has expanded monitoring of vessels connected to Thailand and participated in a meeting of senior military commanders to assess developments in the Middle East and update information regarding assistance for crews operating in the area.

Rattanachaiyapan also stressed that insurance-related issues for ships fall under the responsibility of shipping companies and insurers, while the navy’s role is focused on ensuring security and supporting Thai citizens operating in the region.
