Three killed, five injured in explosion in Russia’s Leningrad region

12 June 2026 14:45

An explosion has occurred in the Lenryba district of the Ust-Luga settlement in Russia’s Leningrad Region, killing three people and injuring five others, according to pro-security Telegram channel 112 and the news outlet 78.ru.

The reports said the blast occurred “during pipe testing,” although neither 112 nor 78.ru specified the exact location.

The outlet 47news also reported that the explosion took place in the port of Ust-Luga, suggesting that contents inside a pipe may have detonated.

Head of the Kingisepp District administration Viktor Tolkatchev noted that investigative authorities are working at the scene but declined to provide further comment.

Ust-Luga is home to one of Russia’s largest Baltic Sea ports. In 2025, its cargo turnover amounted to 130.5 million tonnes.

The port complex includes several terminals, such as oil, dry bulk, and container facilities, as well as the Novatek Ust-Luga processing and transshipment plant for stable gas condensate.
