Trump denies seeking summit with Chinese leader Xi
US President Donald Trump has dismissed reports suggesting he is actively seeking a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, calling them inaccurate.
“The Fake News is reporting that I am SEEKING a ‘Summit’ with President Xi of China. This is not correct, I am not SEEKING anything! I may go to China, but it would only be at the invitation of President Xi, which has been extended. Otherwise, no interest!” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. “Thank you for your attention to this matter,” he added, Caliber.Az reports.
Trump’s remarks follow a Reuters report published last week claiming that aides to both leaders had discussed the possibility of a meeting during a scheduled trip to Asia by the US president later this year. According to sources cited by Reuters, Trump and Xi may meet on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, set to take place in South Korea from October 30 to November 1.
The potential meeting would mark the first face-to-face encounter between the two leaders since the 2019 G20 summit in Osaka, Japan.
The US and China are currently involved in negotiations aimed at easing trade tensions that escalated during Trump’s presidency, particularly following the imposition of a series of tariffs on Chinese imports.
