Trump denies Zelenskyy's claims of Russia-NATO war threat
US President Donald Trump has dismissed comments made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who suggested that Russia was planning to launch a war against NATO.
In an interview with US media, Trump strongly disagreed with Zelenskyy's assessment, Caliber.Az reports.
“No, I don’t agree, I don’t agree. Not even in the slightest,” Trump said, refuting Zelenskyy's claim that Russia was preparing for an invasion of NATO member states.
Zelenskyy had recently stated that Russia would “start a war against NATO” if the United States withdrew its support for Ukraine. He referenced intelligence reports, which he claimed indicated that Russia was amassing troops in preparation for a possible military invasion of another European country.
While Zelenskyy remains open to negotiations with Moscow, he has insisted that Ukraine would only engage in talks if security guarantees are provided. Initially, Ukrainian officials had pressed for the country’s NATO membership, but Russia rejected peace on those terms.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, speaking in February, stated that the alliance had never promised Ukraine membership following the resolution of the conflict. However, he added that NATO must ensure that fighting in the country does not resume.
The ongoing geopolitical tensions remain a crucial point of discussion, with leaders across the world continuing to assess the implications of Russia’s military actions.
