Trump downplays China’s role in Iran conflict, calls support limited
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday, April 26, that he is not “overly disappointed” with China’s involvement in the Iran conflict, describing Beijing’s support for Tehran as limited.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump downplayed the extent of China’s role, suggesting that while some assistance may exist, it is not significant.
“I don’t think much. I think maybe helping, but I don’t think much they could,” Trump said. “They could help a lot more. I’m not overly disappointed.”
He also drew a comparison with US support for Ukraine, arguing that Washington likewise provides assistance to its partners in conflicts, and therefore he does not consider China’s position on Iran to be “very bad.”
Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Gao Jiaqun earlier rejected Trump’s insinuations regarding possible military aid to Iran.
He also emphasised that “normal international trade and economic cooperation should not be subject to interference or obstruction.”
