Trump eyes peace talks with Putin, considers more Patriot missiles for Ukraine
US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to engage in further dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin in an effort to bring an end to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
His remarks came during a press conference following talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
"I am going to speak with Vladimir Putin, see if we can get it ended," Trump stated, indicating a possible diplomatic initiative aimed at resolving the conflict that has destabilized the region since 2022.
Addressing reporters after his meeting with Zelenskyy, Trump said the Ukrainian leader “would like to end the war” and reiterated his own desire to explore avenues for peace. "Look, Vladimir Putin really has to end that war," Trump added.
In addition to efforts to advance negotiations, Trump also addressed Ukraine’s urgent military needs, particularly in defending against Russian missile attacks. He revealed that the United States is considering providing additional Patriot missile systems to bolster Ukraine’s air defence capabilities.
The Patriot missiles, known for their effectiveness in intercepting incoming threats, are in high demand globally. “The anti-missile missiles are very hard to get,” Trump acknowledged, “but we are going to see if we can make some of them available.”
