Trump leads Harris by one point in latest poll
US ex-President Donald Trump is ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris by one per cent in voter support for the upcoming presidential election.
The survey shows that 50 per cent of voters support Trump, compared to 49 per cent for Harris, Caliber.Az reports citing the foreign media.
However, both candidates face significant disapproval: 53 per cent of respondents have a negative view of Trump, while 51 per cent view Harris unfavourably. Economic issues (38 per cent), immigration (14 per cent), and abortion (14 per cent) are seen as the primary concerns, with only four per cent considering foreign policy a top priority.
Trump's strongest support comes from men, White evangelical Christians, rural voters, and White men without a college degree.
Harris’s strongest supporters are women, Black voters, those under 30, and college graduates. Her numbers among these groups are slightly higher than Biden's in the July matchup against Trump, but they generally fall short of the support Biden garnered closer to the 2020 Election Day.
Conducted from August 9-12, 2024, this poll was directed jointly by Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R). The survey included interviews with 1,105 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file. Participants were interviewed via landlines (129), cellphones (704), or completed the survey online after receiving a text invitation (272). The overall margin of error for the full sample is ±3 percentage points, with greater error margins for subgroup analyses. Results may also be influenced by question wording and order. The data was weighted to reflect age, race, education, and geographic variables, ensuring the sample accurately represents the registered voter population.
